Tamesa: River of Souls  (Samhain Event)

Every year, around about Samhain (Halloween.. traditional day of honoring our ancestors) we hold a small ritTamesa_Samhain_2009-2__c_Maniual/ceremony by the river Thames.

History / reason: This is because it used to be the dumping site of so many thousands of dead bodies in medieval times. In modern times, some Hindus & others have been known to scatter the ashes of their cremated loved ones (Hindu custom follows ashes being scattered in running water. In India this is done in the river Ganges). Hence it makes sense to honour all those `souls’ that ened their mortal journey in this river.Tamesa_Samhain_2009-3__c_Mani

Ritual: Part of our ceremony involves creating a small altar on the sandy foreshores of Thames (at low tide!), lighting candles, placing any bones we find nearby. Some silent pagan prayers, blessing, consecrations, and a small picnic (feasting with the dead!).. and returning the bones back to the river immediately. On occassions, we throw coins in to the river, symbolic of payment to the `Ferryman’ who (Greek mythology) ferries dead souls to the underworld, and requires a small fee.

Tamesa London Circle (TLC) Tamesa-eclipse2008-2

Tamesa London Circle was formed in 2006 by Mani & April, to celebrate, honour and work magically and spiritually with the River Thames, and it’s spirit (or deity)- known as Thamesis, Tamesa or Thames Isis. This includes the woods & parks of London. River Thames has a long association with London’s history and is full of ancient mysteries- worshiped from Tribal times to Romans and modern pagans and Hindus. Ancient artefacts and bones of cattle and human are still burried in it’s depths. These often surface after a high tide, along the shores.

Tamesa Rituals. suitable for beginners and experienced magical practitioners. Regular outdoor rituals on the banks of river Thames, and in nearby parks when appropriate. These rituals are based on Lunar cycles (full moon, dark moon, eclipses and work with energies and tides of the river Thames. Hence ritual days, times and locations vary. We continue to do special rituals through out the year. Contact us to be kept updated.

We now  do Tamesa rituals on very specific occassions.

Craft & Magic Courses’-craft-magic-course-mani

In 2008 & 2009, we started facilitating indoor & outdoor Craft & Magic courses and workshops. These are now fully developed. Visit www.craftandmagic.org for full details.

Masked Balls & Socials: TLC has facilitated stand-alone Masked Balls on the Thames (onboard The Queen Mary), and also ran joint Balls with Pagan Federation London (PF London). In total here have been 3 (Pirates of the Thames, Angels & Demons Gothic Ball, Masquerade Ball). TLC is also fond of having river-side picnics, walks & socials (rowing at Richmond). In addition in the Summer of 2008, we organised a trip to the source of the river Thames, for a special ritual.

`Treasures of Tamesis’ (art & craft)-an art & craft venture by TLC (2006-2008), with its members making tribal jewellery from animal bones & other coins/artefacts found on the banks of the Thames. (We found some artefacts collected from Thames to be intensley psychically active, and had to listen to our intuition and the spirits, and return them to the river in october’07, in 2 private rituals).. We plan to re-start the Art & Craft ventures once stocks have been built up again. Meanwhile look out for our tamesa tribal jewellery worn by many people in the London pagan events

Durga in Thames: (2006)A first time event took place on the banks of the river Thames in London on the 2nd October 2006. Various biodegradable statues of Durga and other goddesses were immersed ritually in the Thames. This followed the Hindu Goddess festival of Navarathri (9 nights) where the tripple goddessess for education, wealth, power (Saraswathy, Lakshmi, Durga) are worshiped. Hindus and staff of British Museum (which ran a 2 month exhibition in aug-sept 2006) witnessed this event along with hundreds of passers by, TV crew and journalist.

The event was televised on national news on the same evening.. Here are some early photos we took. (TLC founders Mani & April were there to participate. Their photos appeared in the `Evening Standard’- seen pushing the statues into the deeper areas of the river).
